Black Horror Survivors #54 – John (Day of the Dead)

Update: due to unforeseen circumstances, the remaining eight entries missed the BHM deadline and will spill into the next day or two. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This February, Midnight Social Distortion will be celebrating Black History Month by honoring Black horror characters, in particular Black horror survivors, throughout the twenty-eight day period. Each day will feature one black male and one black female survivor in horror and sci-fi to bring light to the positive, albeit still problematic, black champions of representation in horror. Some disclaimers first: obvious spoilers ahead, and not all horror survivors will be featured this go round, but will appear in later posts down the line.

John (Terry Alexander)

Character Arc:

John was the resident helicopter pilot for the underground bunker of scientists and soldiers surviving the zombie apocalypse. Not really caring about the research of the scientists nor the bullshit of the soldiers, John pretty much stayed in his lane. Mainly because he felt that none of it matters in the end as did all of life/Earth’s greatest mysteries. He, as well as his comrade Bill McDermott, did help Sarah when she needed it. When the shit hit the fan, the soldiers demanded that John lifted them to safety and to leave behind Sarah and Bill in the process, but he refuses and they take him hostage, trying to kick his ass into submission. But they failed. When the outside zombies entered the facility, John found Sarah and McDermott and got them the hell out of the “great big fourteen mile tombstone” they called home and found an island to start life anew.

Final Thoughts

Not much to say about John, except that he was the only person in the bunker with some common sense. He had accepted the apocalypse and was ready to start a new life among the ruins. Hopefully he lived a damn good life on that island…
